Many years ago, the Nereid Thetis married
Peleus. All the gods were at the wedding but Eris, the goddess of discord and
strife who was not invited. París was also there, a humble Trojan shepherd.
Eris, sad for not having received invitation
sent an apple and an envelope in which indicated that it was "for the
fairest maiden of the party". All the goddesses were fighting for the
apple. Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite, were the strongest maids. Zeus ordered that
Paris was responsible for making the decision.
Firstly Paris proposed to make a deal and give
to each goddess a piece of apple, but Zeus ordered that the most beautiful one
should be awarded with the apple.
Paris met each one. The three of them wanted to
seduce him and the only one who succeeded was Aphrodite, goddess of love. She
had promised him the most beautiful woman of the Earth, Helena of Sparta,
daughter of Zeus and wife of King Menelaus. Paris gave her the apple and she
prepared the meeting between Paris and Helena. she fell in love with Paris.
Hera protected them to retrieve Helen from Troy for Paris to marry Helen.
But Athena and Hera angry with the decision
visited Eris and with her help prepared a war of Greeks against Trojans. There
are those who say that the war was by a woman, but ... the war was for an apple
and other women´s anger.
